Thelma Honaker Keene Murphy, 88 years of age of Mavisdale, VA, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Clinch Valley Medical Center. Born December 5th, 1928 in McDowell, WV, she was the daughter of the late Hobert G. and Ebby Elizabeth Mullins Honaker.
Thelma was a faithful and devoted Christian and member of Prayer Warriors House, Mavisdale, VA. She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone, praying, going to church and spending time in her garden. She loved to make fried pies to give to family and friends. She always had a smile on her face and loved everyone dearly. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Burlie Keene, daughters, Thelma Lucille Sheets and Mary Alice Hampton; sons, Burlie Keene Jr. and Jack R. Keene; four sisters and five brothers.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Patsy (Coy) Keene of Oakwood, VA; sons, Mickey (Lynn) Keene of Bartley, WV, sisters, Mildred ( Earnest) Hess of Tazewell, VA and Marie Mullins of Pilgrims Knob, VA; brother, George (Juanita) Honaker of Hurley, VA; grandchildren, Eva Davis, Gary Hampton, Julie Hawkins, Mary Kennedy, Mark VanFossen, Regina Phillips, Jessica Keene Blankenship, Chris Hampton, Patricia Hicks, Heather Keene Payne, Burlie Keene, Stevie Keene, Johnny Keene, Donna Gullett, Judy Davis, Jasmine Hampton and Victoria Cook. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Susan Smith, Reverend Leonard and Linda Meadows, Aunt Mabel Mullins, Randy and Ann Tedford and Patricia Hall.
Funeral service for Thelma Honaker Keene Murphy will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Chapel of Keen Mountain, VA, Saturday, November 24, 2017 at 12:00 Noon with Reverend Leonard Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery in Keen Mountain, VA.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Prayer Warrior House.
