TEWKSBURY -- Laurent Richard "Dick" Sutton, age 94 a resident of Tewksbury for five decades, died peacefully Monday, November 20, at Nashua Crossings Assisted Living Center after a long period of declining health. He was the beloved husband for sixty-six years of the late Ann (Garvey) Sutton, who died in September 2016.

He was born in Biddeford, Maine, in February 1923, one of four children of the late Frances X. and M. Antoinette (Bergeron) Sutton, and moved to Massachusetts in his teenage years. He was raised in Charlestown, and graduated from Charlestown High School. He attended the University of Missouri for small engine repair training. After his marriage, Ann and he moved to Tewksbury to raise their family, where they attended St. William's Church. He retired to Nashua in February 2016.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WWII and served in both the Atlantic and South Pacific seas aboard the USS Token, a Navy Minesweeper. He was awarded many medals including the Victory, Atlantic Theater, Asiatic-Pacific with five Battle Stars, the Philippian Liberation with one Battle Star, and Good Conduct Medals

Dick's early career was as an automobile mechanic, working for several notable dealerships including Wilmington Ford, Belmont Ford, Burlington Dodge, and Nashua Ford. He left the auto world to become a supervisor of the Laundry Department at Tewksbury Hospital retiring in 1991 at the age of 68.

He leaves a sister Francine (Sutton) Fitzgibbon and three sons, Richard Sutton and his wife Donna (Philbrook) of Brewster, Cape Cod, Wayne Sutton and his wife Mary (Zellen) of Hollis, NH, and Brian Sutton of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Mary, Lee, and Richard Sutton, William, Hope and Evan Sutton; three great-grandchildren, Antonia, Nandalia, and Eloette; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Paul.

SUTTON -- Relatives and friends will be received Friday, November 24, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts., (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER. His Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial with Navy Honors at Tewksbury Cemetery.
