The Rev. James Oval Branscum, 57, Bronston, died Friday, September 21 at his residence following a long illness.

He was a member and assistant pastor of Zion Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Stolle Corporation in Sidney, Ohio.

Born May 10, 1927 in Wayne County, he was the son of Claude and Mattie Jones Branscum. His parents preceded him in death.

He was married May 10, 1949, and his wife, Iva Lee Branscum survives.

Other survivors are his children, Jimmy and Howard Leon Branscum, both of Bronston, Jerry Branscum, Burnside, Jack, Gary, and Rickie Branscum, all of New Castle, Indiana, and Nancy West, Steubenville; five brothers, Arley and Tom Branscum, both of Tateville, Leonard and Cordus Branscum, both of Sidney, Ohio, and Paul Branscum, Pemberton, Ohio; three sisters, Ottie Vaughn, Berea, Opal Branscum, Tateville, and Bernice Epperson, Russia, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.

A sister, Mary Cook preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Ardell Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Keno Cemetery.

Somerset Undertaking Company is in charge of arrangements.
