Frances Elizabeth (Wallace) Houston, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.

She was born Dec. 27, 1911, in Indianapolis to John Rhoades and Katherine Elizabeth (Gross) Wallace. She married Elmo S. Houston on Aug. 15, 1939. He preceded her in passing.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Katherine and Donald D. Dennis of Whiteland; a granddaughter and her husband, Amy S. and Scott Heady of Indianapolis; a grandson, D. Andrew Dennis of Vail, Colo.; and three great-grandsons, Clayton Sanders, Samuel Sanders and Lucas Heady, all of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Rhoades and Katherine; and her husband, Elmo.

She was a graduate of Manual High School. She was a graduate of Indiana Central/University of Indianapolis, cum laude, in 1933.

Frances was an educator and musician in Johnson and Shelby counties. She retired from Edinburgh High School in 1971.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Franklin. Frances was a member of the OWLS at First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women's Association and served on numerous committees with the Whitewater Valley Presbytery. She was a member of the Indiana State Teacher's Association, where she served as a director to the National Retired Teachers Association. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Matinee Musicale.
