John Redner Nolan, retired LTC, US Army was my father. Born to Raymond E. & Marion Redner Nolan in Yonkers, NY. He was an only child & spent as much of his youth as possible on his grandfather (Joseph Redner)'s farm in Orange Co. NY. He met his one true love while attending the Univ. of TN in Knoxville & married my mother, Frances Martha Elkins in Miami, FL on Dec. 29, 1951. During his 22 yrs. in the U.S. Army they had 5 children before he retired in 1975, to a small horse & cattle farm in the FL panhandle. Dad was known as Jack to many & had a lifelong love of horses. In his younger years he was a bull rider in rodeo circuits but settled down to being a "gentleman farmer" in his retirement. He died after a very brief illness of rapidly metastatic malignant melanoma. It was later determined that his premature death at the age of 56 was likely due to exposure to Agent Orange, during one of his 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam.
In addition to my mother, Frances, Dad was survived by his five children, James, Daniel (and wife, Lesley, who was expecting their firstborn) Barbara Greiner (and husband Jeffrey), Judith & Dennis & his granddaughter, Jennifer. Dad was extremely happy in his role as a grandpa to Jenny & was looking forward to his 2nd grandchild. Michael Raymond was born on Sept. 15, 1984, thirteen days after his Grandpa Jack left us.
