Veteran of Korean War

William Russell "Russ" Yates, age 86, of Adairsville, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 3 in the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Russ was born July 3, 1931 in Atlanta, son of the late Victor Roscoe Yates and Mary Jane Loudermilk Yates. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Marine Corp.
He was a member of the North Atlanta Baptist Church and prior to his retirement was employed with the Gordon County School System. Russ was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His favorite scripture was John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Allene Yates; his son, Steven Russell Yates; and a brother, Vernon Roscoe Yates.

Survivors include his son, ...; one daughter, ...; one sister, ... Three grandchildren, ...; seven great-grandchildren as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m. from the Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Mableton, with Rev. Charles "Chuck" Romain officiating. Pallbearers serving included Russell "Rusty" Yates, Kent Benson, Ron Yates, Vincent Yates, Andrew Cole and Britt Cole.
