Mr. Knox was born February 13, 1929 in Brunswick County to the late Charlie and Gwendolyn Knox. Elbert was a lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a farmer, avid deer hunter, fisherman, and loved playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Knox had worked at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant and several years for Babcock and Wilcot. Mr. Knox was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Knox, Dr. William Knox, and Malcom Knox; and a sister-in-law Dr. Angelina Knox.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Jeanette Hickman Knox; a son Dwight Knox and wife Tina; a daughter Aleta Murray and husband Glenn; a brother Warren Knox and wife Sarah; a sister-in-law Julia Knox; seven grandchildren, Clint Knox and wife Paula, Amy Clemmons and husband Brian, Wes Knox and wife Amanda, Cody Knox and wife Sarah, Dustin Knox, Maleta Owens, and Kaylan Murray and Jack; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will have visitation on Monday, November 20th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at White Funeral and Cremation Service. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 21st at Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverend Karen Howell and Revered Mark Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the David R. Mercer Cemetery.
