In 1754 a fearful distemper, malignant dysentery, raged with great violence in Brooklyn, CT. Rev. Ephraim Avery, a pastor, physician, and nurse, continued night and day attending to the sick and dying. On the 10th of Oct Ephraim & Deborah's 5year old son Septimus died, and on the 20th of Oct Ephriam fell a victim to the dreaded disease, leaving Deborah a widow with 7 children, Rev. Ebenezer Devotion preached his funeral sermon.
