Eckardt, Edith "Babs"
June 8, 1912 - Dec 23, 2005
Mrs. Edith "Babs" Eckardt passed away peacefully on December 23, 2005 in her ninety-fourth year. She was predeceased by her husband Alan, her sister Gertrude, and her niece Pearl. Babs grew up in Epson, Surrey, England. During WWII she served as a senior munitions inspector traveling throughout the country checking quality control in munitions factories. It was during that time that she met her future husband, Al, who was stationed with the Canadian troops in England. She and Al immigrated to Canada in 1946. During the time spent in the east, they lived in Windsor, Ontario. Babs, a valued and long-term employee, worked at Sears in the accounting department. The Eckardts retired to Comox in 1983. Babs was an active, bright and fashionable woman who had many interests such as her home, garden, traveling, day trip with the Evergreen Seniors, the theatre, and a love for her animals, especially cats. Her ability to converse with anyone she met was a quality we all admired in her. She regularly attended exercise classes at d'Esterre Centre finally giving up push-ups at the age of eighty-eight! For the last three years health issues had forced her to curtail her activities, but she always maintained a positive attitude and took joy in each new day. Lovingly remembered by her nieces Linda, Judy, and Dale in Ontario and Barbara in Calgary. Fondly remembering her also are her many friends in the Comox Valley. A loving aunt, a caring friend, Babs will live on in our hearts.
