Alice Arlene Hinds, age 98, of Elkhart, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel Arthur and Mamie Grace (Allen) Honn, was born October 16, 1919, in Decatur County, Iowa. She passed away November 16, 2017, at home in Elkhart, Iowa.
Arlene attended Spunky Ridge School in High Point and later Leon. She married Kenneth Hinds on October 16, 1935. To this union, three children were born.
Arlene was a stay at home mother but during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season she worked at a chicken/turkey processing plant south of Leon to purchase Christmas gifts for Lorel and Ginger. After moving to the Robert Pullen farm south of Leon in 1961, Arlene opened an antique shop in her home and ran the business until March of 2000, when she moved to Elkhart with her daughter, Jonda.
Arlene was always busy cooking for the family, going to auctions, or sewing costumes for her large collection of antique dolls. Later in life, Arlene loved to work word search and jigsaw puzzles, read lots of novels, and watch the game show network on TV.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kenneth on January 2, 1997; daughter, Ginger Warren on March 7, 1983; son, Lorel Hinds on February 11, 2011; and her twelve brothers and sisters, Thelma Dunham Moulton, Arthur Honn, Opal Dunham, Lucille Johnson, Laverne Stella Evans, Eula Malone, Madaline Dunham, Clell Honn, Wayne Honn, Oleta Grace, and infants, J. P. and Lawrence P.
Survivors include one daughter; a son-in-law; five grandchildren; great grandchildren; great, great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 11 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
