Lee Tyler Newman. 87 Wilmore. Kentucky
formerly Of Henderson, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord in his heavenly home Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Lee loved Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 57 years serving as a deacon and receiving the Shepherd's Award. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran. He worked as a self-employed contractor for many years, his business motto being Our Aim to Satisfy. He loved to watch UK basketball, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Boston Celtics. Lee was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He was a friend to many and always ready to lend a hand. He knew no strangers.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Waverly and Elsie Staples Newman; and two brothers, James Thomas Newman and Telles Newman.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Newman of Wilmore, Kentucky, formerly Henderson, Kentucky; one daughter, Jeana Thomas and husband, Glenn, of Henderson, Kentucky; one son, Sam Newman and wife, Christina, of Berea, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Joshua Thomas and wife, Heather, Lucas Thomas and wife, Mary, Daniel Thomas and wife Megan, Emily Duncan and husband, Andrew, Jonathan Newman, and Wesley Newman; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Baptist Church. The Reverend Dan Garland and the Reverend Dan Book will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
