J.L. Poor, 91, of Abilene, TX passed away on Saturday, November 18th in Abilene.

A service is scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at The Hamil Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Matta, officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Visitation with the family will be held Monday evening from 6 - 8pm.

J.L. was born in Abilene, TX to Callie Dunn and John Lucius Poor on April 23, 1926.

He went to school at Wiley (Butterfield) and graduated from Abilene High.

He worked as a machinist in the US Navy and upon his honorable discharge, he married Janet Barriault in Portland, Maine (May 25, 1946).

J.L. was an electrician for a brief time and then joined Cummins Electrical Supply where he rose to manager over his 40 year career.

He was on the Taylor Telephone Board of Directors for 30 years. He was a World War II Naval veteran and was awarded several medals including: Victory World War II, Asiatic-Pacific & 1 Star and Philippine Liberation.

He was involved in Caps Methodist Church.

J.L. was preceded in death by his wife Janet, son Jimmy and brothers Vernon, Gene and Elton.

J.L. is survived by his children Pamela Phillips; Rob Poor and his wife Libby; sister Janice Merrell; grandchildren Gina Miller, Bradley Poor and his wife Stacy, Todd Poor, and Callie Shelton; great grandchildren Layla Poor and John Poor. And granddaughter Marci Taylor.

Memorials may be given to Hendrick Hospice. The family of J.L. wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the people of Hendrick Hospice for the care.
