U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Ohio in 1807, he studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced his practice in Cincinnati. He also was a writer for a newspaper in 1825, a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1829, 31-32), served in the Ohio State Senate, (1833-34, 43-44) and chairman of the commission to adjust taxes for the counties of Ohio. In 1849, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first, Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses, serving until 1855. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he died shortly later at age 53.
