Hazel Irene Riley, 87, of Cowden, IL, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Darrell Hinkle officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City, IL. Memorials may be given to VFW Auxiliary of Post #4829 in Shelbyville or the Shelby County Senior Center.

Hazel was born on April 13, 1930 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Homer Leo and Clara Alice (Martz) Renner. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden, IL, Shelby County Quilters’ Guild and VFW Auxiliary of Post #4829 in Shelbyville, IL. Hazel enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family. She married Ralph Edward Riley on March 13, 1948.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph; sons, Ralph Riley Jr. of Altamont, IL and Rodney (Karis) Riley of Effingham, IL; daughters, Roxie Alwardt of St. Elmo, IL and Rita (Orville) Kirkendoll of Herrick, IL; brother, Raymond (Sheila) Renner of Stewardson, IL; sister, Eva Roberts of Shelbyville, IL; sister-in-law, Doreen Renner of Columbus, OH; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Homer and Alice; son-in-law, Glenn Alwardt; daughter-in-law, Karen Riley; brothers, Robert “Bob”, William “Bill” and Homer Leo “Jr.” Renner; and sister, Helen Hudson.
