RITA C. CHILDERS, 96, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at Wood view Assisted Living in Fort Wayne. Born to the late Maurice and Eleanor Murchland, she was a native and lifetime resident of Fort Wayne, Ind. She graduated from South Side High School in 1939. She enjoyed music, playing the organ, tending to her flowers and house plants and caring for her pets. Rita was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving are her son, Steven L. (Belinda K. "Sissy") Childers of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter, Linda S. (Roger Hill) Childers of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Kathy M. Childers of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Linda Childers of Angola, Ind.; sisters, Mary Shepherd of Dallas, Texas, Arlouine Jahns of Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren. Rita was also preceded in death by her sons, Harold R. Childers, Michael L. Childers, David R. Childers; sister, Lois Murchland; brothers, Robert P. and Hugh Edward Murchland. Service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 22, 2017 at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hour prior. Private burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind. Memorials may be made to the Hope for Animals.
