Bernice E. Wagener, 86, of Horicon, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

A memorial gathering for Bernice will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon. A memorial service will follow at the church at 12 p.m. with Rev. Samuel Jackson officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon.

Bernice was born on February 2, 1931 in the Tn. of Burnett, the daughter of Gustav and Eleanora (Drews) Schwartz. She was a 1948 graduate of Horicon High School. On January 24, 1953 she was united with Lloyd Wagener at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon. Bernice worked at the Horicon State Bank for 10 years, and served as the Zion Lutheran Church secretary for over 20 years.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon. Bernice served on the Oak Hill Cemetery Board as the secretary and treasurer for 20 years, she also served the city of Horicon on the Election Commission, as Chairman for 27 years. She belonged to the Horicon American Legion Auxiliary Unit 157, where she served in all the offices of the unit. Bernice also served the Dodge County American Legion Auxiliary as Vice President and President. She also served the Second District American Legion Auxiliary as its Vice President and President.

Survivors include, her husband Lloyd "Kicker", three daughters; Ellen (Steve) Sunderland of Horicon, Faith (Don) Klostreich of Yuma, AZ, Linda Wagener of Madison, and one son; Edward (Vicki) Wagener of Cambridge, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great grandchildren, her brothers; Gordon (Florine) Schwartz of Horicon, Harvey Gietzel of Horicon, Frank Gietzel of Madison, and sister-in-law; Ruth Schwartz of Beaver Dam. Bernice is further survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Gustav and Eleanora Schwartz, three sisters; Elmay Mercier, Eleanor Schwarze, Pearl Muenchow, five brothers; Oscar Schwartz, Wilbur Schwartz, Erwin Gietzel, Hilbert Gietzel, and Merlin Gietzel.
