My son Jacob passed away November 15, 2017.

Jacob had a hard life in a lot of ways. He was diagnosed with brain cancer and had an operation to remove it. He had radiation therapy, chemotherapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy at various times. The left side of his body was handicapped. He was able to walk with difficulty and could use his left hand with difficulty. Later he had a series of strokes and seizures.

Even though he had all these problems he had a good life. We would camp and fish, go to lagoon, the zoo. He got to go to Disney thanks to Make-A-Wish. He got to go to Jazz games and got to know some of the players. We joined a bowling league and despite his handicaps he became a pretty good bowler.

Jacob was independent. He got a job working as an usher at the theater in Sandy Mall. He started buying things (plates, silverware and other things) so he could get his own apartment. He got an apartment at the Grand Hotel in Salt Lake. He made friends there and around the neighborhood. Tracks was right outside the apartment building and he often used it to go shopping or get to appointments and elsewhere. For a number of years he would work at a haunted house. He really loved doing that. He got a big kick out of scaring people there.

He had a motorized wheelchair he used when he was going out somewhere, but in the apartment he would walk. Eventually he started using a cane when he wasn't in his wheelchair.

As time went on he started falling. Eventually he was falling more and more frequently and a few months ago he went into an assisted living facility where he still had his own small apartment, but there were people to assist him with various things. They had a dining room where he could go to eat.

While he was there he fell again and had to go to the hospital. From the hospital he went to a rehab center. He went back and fourth between the rehab center and the hospital. During this period of time his ability to communicate deteriorated. The last week he was in constant pain and they had to use morphine to keep the pain in check. He passed away comfortably about 4:00 on November 15. Jacob was fearless.
