George M. Foley, 89, of Waterloo, died at Covenant Medical Center on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

He was born on March 9, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN; the son of Michael and Jeanette (Benik) Foley.

George graduated from De La Salle High School in Minnesota in 1946 and later graduated from Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.

He served in the United States Army during WWII in the Asiatic Theater and Japanese Occupation until his honorable discharge in 1947.

George married Elaine L. Sauter on December 18, 1948 at St. Bridges Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN; she preceded him in death on October 4, 2014.

He worked as auto parts manager at Chevrolet dealerships in Minneapolis; he then worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of Minneapolis-St. Paul and became sales manager; he later transferred and became president of Pepsi-Cola Bottle Company in Waterloo, retiring after 31 years in 1987.

He served as director, secretary, and president of the Iowa Soft Drink Association, and president of the Iowa Pepsi-Cola Bottlers Association, serving on Standardization and Management Education committees. He was active in numerous trade association projects, United Way, and local civic groups. George was also a member of St. Edward Catholic Church

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Marienau of Waterloo, IA; two sons, Kevin (Catherine) Foley of Coralville, IA and Michael (Elaine) Foley of Westerville, OH; six grandchildren, Alaina Severino, Andrew Marienau, Emily Marienau, Ryan (Sheila) Foley, Renae (Daniel) Conway, and Mykala (Matthew) Tassin Delesdernier; three great granddaughters, Aspen. Sophia, and Elodie.

He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Kathleen Foley; a sister, Betty Milton; and a brother, Roger Foley.

Visitation:
3:00 PM -5:00 PM on Sunday, November 19 at Locke Funeral Home; with a 4:30 PM Vigil service.
