Paulette Sue (Redner) Ross, 72, of Castle Rock passed away Nov. 12, 2017, at home.

She was born Jan. 8, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, to Henry and Lauretta (Hug) Redner. Polly graduated from Tallmadge High School in Ohio in 1963, and from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education.

On July 1, 1967, she and Bob Ross were married. They moved to Castle Rock in June of 1975 and celebrated 50 years of marriage this past July.

Polly taught in public schools for two years one in Clark Fork, Idaho, and the other in Columbus. In 1970 she began teaching piano, and continued for the next 47 years. Hundreds of students benefited from Polly's love of music and teaching skills, as well as her love and care for them.

In 1970 their first child, Laura was born followed by the birth of Nathan in 1974. Polly loved being a mother and grandmother, and supporting Bob in his service to the church and community. She was an active member of the church, worshiping and serving at both St. Paul Lutheran and St. Rose Catholic. Polly worked in the church facilitating support groups, teaching, and leading youth in singing groups. She was a core member establishing St. Paul's Castle Rock-Toutle Kids Clothes Closet and chaired the group for many years. She also assisted in establishing the Summer Kids Meals program. She spearheaded St. Paul's annual world hunger appeal and established the annual World Hunger Benefit Quilt Show. Polly was a member of the Castle Rock Quilters Group and facilitated their Quilts Beyond Borders project. Polly's lifelong love of children and their needs led her to serve as a CASA—Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in the Cowlitz County court system for the past eight years.

She is survived by husband, Pastor Robert Ross; a daughter, Laura 'Laurie' Ross-Aristide (Manny) of Osterville, Mass.; a son, Nathan Ross (Elena) of Castle Rock; a sister, Kaye Gauder (Frank) of Munroe Falls, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Koen, Ben, Easton, and Zadun Ross.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Aristide.

A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Castle Rock, officiated by Pastor Sue Wanwig. Viewings will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church.

The family encourages memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's ELCA World Hunger Fund or the St. Paul Lutheran's Kids Clothes Closet.
