ROD BOARDMAN, 82, EX-BOAT CAPTAIN, DIES

Bay St. Louis, June 3 – Captain Rod Boardman died at his home in Perlington [sic], Miss., at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Captain Boardman was born in Pearlington in 1857. He was the son of Daniel Boardman, who came to Mississippi from Boston in 1845, and Mrs. Martha Seal Boardman, a native of Hancock County.

In 1900 Captain Boardman was married to Miss Nannie Graham, daughter of Captain and Mrs. Hector M. Graham of Alabama. He leaves his widow, two children, Mrs. Lester Adams of Alexandria, La., and Joseph Favre Boardman of Gulfport, and one sister, Mrs. Angeline Favre of Pearlington.

Captain Boardman owned and operated the first steam mail boat on Pearl River, which carried mail between English Lookout and Gainesville, Miss.

He was the only surviving charter member of Diamond Lodge No. 393, F. and A. M. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the residence.
