George C. Thom, age 90, of Janesville, died on June 3, 2009, at home. He was born in Janesville on April 22, 1919, the son of Otto and Lydia (Kressin) Thom. He graduated from Janesville High School and was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy from 1941 to 1947. George was stationed at Hickam Field Air Force Base, Oahu Island, Hawaii as an aircraft metal smith, and while there he repaired aircraft damaged in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the war in the Pacific. He had been employed by General Motors, retiring in 1981. He married Doris A. Schumacher Thom on Sept. 8, 1994, in Janesville. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, UAW Local 95, and the GM Golf League. He was a stained glass craftsman, a fisherman, golfer and gardener.
