The Lord called home Mickey Jean Wood on Tuesday, the 6th day of March, 2007. She was surrounded by her family. Confident of her salvation, she was glad to lay down the burdens of life.

Mickey Jean, the third daughter born to Finnie L. Murphy and Essie Mae Bond Murphy, was born at home May 6, 1929, in Hoover, Texas (Pampa County). The tiny baby was not expected to live so she was not named for 3 months. The doctor planned to enter the birth and death information at the same time, consequently he forgot to enter her birth with the county when Mickey survived. Aunt Corrine Bond named the child Mickey because it was an Irish name, and seemd to fit the tiny baby. The family returned to Grayson County in 1935 (both the Bonds and Murphys were from the Sadler-Basin Springs area).

Mickey attended the Independence, Basin Springs and Sadler schools through eighth grade. She graduated from Denison High School in May 1947, and married Norris Kinion Wood the following August sixth. They resided at the Wood family farm near Sadler.

A son, Kenyon Lynn Wood was born April 19, 1949, and a daughter, Brenda Marie Wood was born June 10, 1952. Mickey worked hard as a farm wife and was active in the Sadler Baptist Church and the PTA. In 1966, Mickey graduated with the first Licensed Vocational Nurses class of the new Grayson County College. She worked at Wilson N. Jones Hospital and Whitesboro Nursing Home and volunteer nursing, but mainly she was Norris's number one field hand. In 1965, the family moved into a new home north of Sadler. Norris was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1983, and Mickey nursed him at home, adn in the nursing home until his death in 2001. Her own health impaired, she resided with her daughter and in nursing homes in Whitesboro and Collinsville until her death. She was always tiny physically, but was a fast, hard worker and strong in her faith.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edna Loraine Bond; her husband, Norris Wood; and her son, Kenyon Wood. She is survived by her sister, Viola M. Moore of Buchcanan Dam, Texas; her daughter and husband, Brenda and Mike Stanberry of Whitesboro; her grandsons and their wives, Brent and April Wood, Lance and Amy Wood of Sadler, and Russell Stanberry of Riverside, Calif. She is also survived by granddaughters, Angela Stanberry of Whitesboro, and Jennifer Stanberry Shuemake and husband, William of Mead, Okla. Great-grandchildren are Emily, Wyatt, Wesley, Tyler, and Chase Wood, and Dustin, Amber and Ashley Daughrity.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Huff Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at Huff Funeral Home in Whitesboro with burial beside her husband at Sadler Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Flanagan of First Baptist Church in Whitesboro.
