CLIFTON SPRINGS– Charles Edwin "Charlie" Morphy age 68, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 30, 2017.
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at 3 p.m.on Sunday (June 4) at the First Congregational Church, Canandaigua. A reception will follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St Agnes Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge 1120 Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14620 in Charlie's memory.
Born on May 27, 1949, Charlie lived his entire life in Clifton Springs, N.Y. He attended Clifton Springs schools and was an avid high school basketball player. After studying at St. John Fisher College, Charlie was hired by the US Postal Service where he delighted in serving customers and offering them the "Morphy Special". Early on in his career, he often offered to take PO's cash receipts to the bank so that he could flirt with a cute bank teller Denise, who became the love of his life. Married in 1976, Charlie and Denise settled in Clifton Springs and started a family soon after. Charlie unwittingly earned a name for himself in highschool when he was assigned the lead role as Professor Harold Hill in the musical The Music Man. With a salesman's gift of gab, he became a fantastic story teller and entertainer, singing in The Finger Lakes Chorale and participating in the Canandaigua YMCA "Y" Show. After a 40-year gig with the post office, Charlie retired in 2013 so he could spend his time golfing with friends. Charlie will always be remembered as a "class act," a family man with twinkling eyes, a hearty laugh, and a love for life.
Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Denise Warnshouse Morphy; children Paul (Amy) Morphy and Laura (Derek) Hicks; grandchildren,
Abigail, Evan, and Liam Morphy and Nina Hicks; sisters Catharine "Kay" Kurz and Carolyn "Carol" (RJ) Banfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Mildred Browne and Edwin T. Morphy; and niece, Michelle Davenport.
Arrangements by the R.A. Patrick Funeral Home, Clifton Springs.
