Derrick Eugene Hubbard passed away and went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017. He was born in Taylor, Dec. 26, 1957 to Mr. Robert and Mrs. Ruby Hubbard.

He attended Taylor High School and graduated in 1976. He played basketball for the Ducks. It was there that he met his soulmate Janice Cubit.

Derrick and Janice were married July 13, 1979. To this union, they had a daughter, Shontel.

Derrick worked as a custodian for Taylor ISD. He was an avid sports fan. He spent hours upon hours watching his favorite team, the San Antonio Spurs on television. He was also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father Robert Hubbard.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Janice; mother Ruby Hubbard of Taylor; his mother-in-law Sammie (Leroy) Harrison of Luling; four sisters, Brenda (Louis) Zachary, Denise (Sam) Zachary both of Taylor, Pam Hubbard of Round Rock, and Beverly Aikens of Thrall; one brother, Brian Hubbard of Taylor; one daughter Shontel (Gary) Choice of Hutto; four grandchildren, Gary Choice III, Darien Choice, Mariah Choice and Derrick Choice, all of Hutto; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services for Derrick are scheduled for 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor with the Rev. Louis Zachary presiding. A wake service will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at All Faith, 8507 North IH-35 in Austin
