James E. Agnew, 77, died on November 14 2017 at Kent Regency, Warwick. Jim was the beloved husband of Maureen (Brennan) Agnew and the devoted son of the late Eunice M. Agnew. He was also the cherished stepfather of Dawn Dunn of Wilmington, MA, Wendy Riordan (Terry) of Lincoln, RI, and Scott Maynard of Richmond, RI, and grandfather of seven.

Jim was born in Providence and resided in that city until his marriage in 1995 when he moved to Warwick. Jim worked in the Commissioner’s Office for the city of Providence until his retirement in 1995, primarily responsible for the payroll of the fire department. He was a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 1033. Jim’s other job, from 1972 to 2015, was selling tickets for events in the box office of the Providence Civic Center, now the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. This was a very enjoyable job for him.

Jim was possessed of a wonderful sense of humor that endeared him to those he counted as friends. He was also a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox, often thankful that he finally saw their successes in three World Series. He went to Spring Training for many years, first in Winter Haven and then in Fort Meyers, Florida. He and Maureen also centered many vacations on seeing the Red Sox play in ball parks across the United States and in Canada.

The family is grateful for the kind care Jim received from the VNA of Care New England, its Hospice team, and the staff of the Kent Regency.

Jim will be missed by many: his loving family, his friends, and colleagues.

His funeral will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 at 9 am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, with a mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rita Church, Oakland Beach Ave. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 pm. Donations in Jim’s memory to The Jimmy Fund would be greatly appreciated.
