Juanita “Nita” Young Johnson, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright officiating. George Martin will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was born November 15, 1925, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Bryant I. & Mae Horton Young. She was a 1943 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, one of the first to attend 12 grades. She worked as floor manager for the ladies department at Friedlander’s in Moultrie and Fitzgerald and later worked for Reuben’s Shoes. Mrs. Johnson returned to Fitzgerald in 1962, after having lived several years in Moultrie following her marriage. She loved to play board games and card games with her family, especially Rook. She was a longtime active member of Westside Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and joined Central United Methodist Church ten years ago.
She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law: Jimmy & Betty Lynn Johnson of Fitzgerald; daughter & son-in-law: Donna & Larry Wise of Fitzgerald; grandchildren and their spouses: Al & JoAnna Johnson of Fitzgerald, Alan & Marcy Dean of Fitzgerald, Larry & Tiffany Wise of Jacksonville, Florida, Andy & Mandy Johnson of Fitzgerald, Abby & Jason Holt of Fitzgerald and David Wise of Fitzgerald; and great-grandchildren: Austin Johnson, Oliver Johnson, Thomas Holt, Davis Holt, Kelsey Johnson, Maddox Holt, Drew Johnson, Ashlynn Johnson, and another one on the way. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James E. Johnson, Jr.; a grandson, Joshua Paul Wise; and eight brothers and sisters.
