He was born in Neeses, South Carolina, and had lived in Effingham County since 1951. He was a member of Turkey Branch United Methodist Church, a former Rincon City Councilman, a longtime community volunteer delivering meals to the elderly, and was retired after 40 years of service at CSX Railroad. He enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens and spending time with his family and pets.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jennye Collier DeLoache Tyler; his father, Josie Lee Tyler, Sr.; his mother, Myrtle Matilda Rast Tyler; his sister, Meda Elaine Tyler Smith; his brothers, Dr. Josie Lee Tyler, Jr. and Rabe Rast Tyler; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Tyler and Amaryllis Newsome Tyler; and his brother-in-law, Frampton Smith.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15th, at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, with services to immediately follow in the Chapel. Interment will be in the Springfield Cemetery Annex.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to Westview Nursing and Rehab, 1000 Dorset Road, Port Wentworth, GA 31407 or Turkey Branch United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 1491, Springfield, GA 31329.
