Ann Robinson Carr passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family two days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born in Buck Mountain, Pennsylvania and grew up in Mahanoy City, a small coal-mining town in Pennsylvania. Ann was the eldest of four children of Mary and John Robinson. Her mom and dad were small-time entrepreneurs and had several different businesses. Throughout her childhood she and her siblings worked in those family operations. She graduated from Mahanoy City High School in 1942 and went to work at the Atlas Powder Company – a defense plant supplying munitions for the war effort – she was our own “Rosie the Riveter”. After WWII ended she met her future husband Frank who had returned to Mahanoy City after his tour in the Navy. He used to frequent the lunch room run by her parents. Ann and Frank married in 1948 and soon moved to Philadelphia. They lived in center city Philadelphia and Ann took a job with the pharmaceutical company Smith-Kline. Ann later worked for the Burpee Seed Company and the National Drug Company. Ann and Frank moved to Lansdale, PA in 1970 and Ann went to work for Leeds and Northup in North Wales, PA until her retirement in 1985. She was a working mother long before that term was created. Ann and Frank lived in Lansdale for 36 years until their move to Atlanta in 2006. Ann was devoted to her family. She was an excellent cook; the family loved her meatballs, apple cake, and lemon snow. She had a remarkable sense of humor, and enjoyed “all” kinds of jokes. She left us with many funny memories of family vacations and day-to-day life. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters Eleanor and Lolly and they could all make each other laugh until they cried. Ann was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren. Always doting on the kids, she maintained a fully stocked “candy drawer”, which she raided as often as the kids did. Ann and Frank were married for 60 years until Dad’s death in 2008 at the age of 92. We would like to sincerely thank the staff of AG Rhodes at Wesley Woods, especially the 4th floor staff, and Crossroads Hospice, for the wonderful care that they provided for mom in her final years. A loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, Ann is survived by two children, Ann Marie Factor and her husband Dr. Stewart Factor of Atlanta, Georgia and Francis X. Carr Jr. and his wife Patricia Carr of New Hope, Pennsylvania, four grand children Katie, Rachel, Kevin (Shannon), and Christopher and her sisters Eleanor Shirvinksy and Loretta (Donald) Canfield and numerous adoring extended family members. Services will be private for the family.
