U.S. Congressman. He served in the War of 1812 and after the war later moved to Ridgway, Pennsylvania, in 1822. He was appointed associate judge of Jefferson County, by Governor Porter, in 1842, was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives , (1840, 51) and a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate in 1845. In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed agent for the Pawnee Tribe of Indians, Oklahoma and later died in retirement in Iowa, at age 88.
