Due to the work schedule of her father, as a Clay County road grader operator, she attended grade schools in Idana, Broughton and Wakefield. She attended Clay County Community High School and graduated in May 1947. While living in Idana she worked at the Idana Telephone Office and often spoke of the experience.
Valda spent most of her life as a house wife and devoted mother while married to Donald R. Hatfield whom she married on January 27, 1948. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in January 2017.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Iris Jean Hatfield, brothers, Nedwin Bloom, Larry Bloom, Jimmy Bloom, and sisters, Donna Brown, Arletta Mueller. Valda was always happy and jolly and loved by Jesus. Her departure words to relatives most of her life were, “Remember Jesus loves you and so do we”.
