Reva Hodges Davis, 94, of Collierville was received into the arms of her Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. A member of the Greatest Generation, Reva was born on May 21, 1923 in Rocky Mount, Virginia as the eldest child of Vernon and Sally Hodges. She and her two sisters followed their parents across several states. Vernon Hodges managed flour mills for Dixie White Flour. After tying as Valedictorian of Jackson, Tennessee High School, Reva was the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1944 with a degree in nursing and entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. After World War II ended, Reva worked at the Kennedy VA Hospital in Memphis. In 1946 she met and married her husband of 61 years, Herbert Davis and loved teasing him that she outranked him in the military. Most of her working career was spent in pediatric nursing. However, Reva’s greatest career was that of a mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. She nursed three generations of sick children and usually delighted in babysitting them. Reva is survived by her son, Herb (Sherrie); four grandchildren, Mary Kristin Freeman Hill (David), Lauren Massey (David), Ryan Davis and Stephen Davis (Jennifer) and also treasured her eleven great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN.
