Ann Claire Widem, 41, a wildlife biologist and former area resident who graduated from Woodward High School in North Bethesda, died of cancer March 6 (2001) at her home in Brookline, Mass.

Ms. Widem was born in Springfield, Mass. She moved to the Washington area with her family in 1966 and grew up in Kensington. She was a State of Maryland Governor's Scholar at Woodward High.

She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where she also earned a master's degree in social work. She also received a master's degree in wildlife studies at Antioch University in New Hampshire.

She had worked for the Nature Conservancy of Massachusetts and other conservation and wildlife organizations in Massachusetts since moving there in 1994.

Survivors include her parents, Paul and Barbara Widem of Kensington, and a brother, Jonathan Widem of Alpharetta, Ga.
