Helen was a 1940 graduate of old William Penn High School and a 1944 graduate of Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing. She was an RN and supervisor of nurses at the Harrisburg Hospital and retired after 40 years of service.
She loved to cook and bake for pleasure, much to the enjoyment of family and friends. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and doing word puzzles.
She was the widow of Franklin C. Shaffer, husband of 50 years. She is survived by son; Jeffrey L. Shaffer and wife, Rhonda of Loysville, two grandchildren; Sarah Shaffer and fiancée, Dan Welsh of Enola, and Daniel Shaffer and wife, Christine of Shermans Dale. Helen is also survived by step son; Darryl Shaffer of Cammal and 3 step-grandchildren; Rolf Shaffer and wife, Jennifer, Colleen Shaffer and Melanie Doughtie and husband, Rob. She had 5 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew, Lidia, Sebastian and Penelope.
A viewing will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Musselman Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with burial at St. John's Cemetery.
