Gerald was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Old Port, Mich., the son of John and Edna Miller Lance. He was a 1955 graduate of Newton Falls High School.
Following graduation, he obtained employment at Republic Steel. On Jan. 31, 1956, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and received his honorable discharge on Jan. 30, 1960.
He returned to Republic Steel, from where he retired after 47 years of service.
On Sept.15, 1962, Gerald and Hilda Grace Gallison were united in marriage in Stafford, Conn. The couple resided in Mecca for 30 years until moving to Berlin Center in 2000.
He was a long-time active member of the Newton Falls First Church of God. Bible study was an important part of Gerald’s life.
Gerald would enjoy family vacations and spending winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. Pastimes included building and flying remote control airplanes and riding his motorcycle to various locations across the U.S.
Gerald is survived by his son, Oliver L. (Karrie) Lance; his sister, Barbara Jean Hunter; his brother, David Henry (Lesia) Lance; his grandchildren, Oliver Lance Jr. and Beth Ann (Cody) Lance Carr; and his great- grandchildren, Cody Jr. and Levi.
Preceding Gerald were his wife of 53 years, Hilda; and his brothers, John William “Bill” Lance and Robert Eugene Lance.
Interment will be in the West Mecca Cemetery.
