James Wayne "Poppy" Ackerman -DRY BRANCH - James Wayne "Poppy" Ackerman, 73, passed away Tuesday, October 04, 2011 in a local hospital. Mr. Ackerman, son of the late Lester John and Dorothy June Lawless Ackerman, was born in Waterloo, Iowa. He served with the U. S. Army and was a wrecker driver with Mike Adams Towing. Mr. Ackerman loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed finding arrowheads. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and taking care of them.


He was preceded in death by a precious great granddaughter, Jasmine Howard.


He is survived by those he loved most, his familyÉhis son, Jeff (Karen) Ackerman; seven grandchildren, Brandon Dykes, Cristy Howard, Jeffrey Scott Ackerman, Ashley Ackerman, Jaxson Ackerman, Johnny Woodie and Justin Weitz; six great grandchildren, Jayden Weitz, Lexxie Howard, Kaydence Howard, Ivy Mincey and Haylee Dykes; his brothers and sisters, Wayne Ackerman, Richie Ackerman, Paul Ackerman, Virginia Ackerman, Marlene Ackerman and Neva Peterson and several nieces and nephews and family friend, David Austin.


Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Lake Juliette at the Dames Ferry entrance. - Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of arrangements
