Arlene M. Murphy, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Alfred Anderson and Harold Murphy. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday one hour prior to services at the chapel.

Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be Scott Anderson, James Johnson, Larry Howard, Nathan Murphy, Tyler Stark and Patrick Murphy.

Arlene was born on July 1, 1929, in Bradley, SD, to William and Elsie (Hartley) Fogel. She was the oldest of two children. She attended school in Wallace and later left home to work in Watertown at various jobs and waitressing at the Guest House. Arlene married Alfred Anderson in 1946 at Milbank, SD. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter. Alfred passed away on November 6, 1973.

On June 3, 1978, Arlene married Harold Murphy in Watertown. Harold had four children from a previous marriage that he brought into the family. Arlene worked at the hospital, cleaned various places, including Margaret Hansen's home, and did some babysitting. The couple stayed quite active by dancing, bowling, camping, hunting, fishing, going to the Casino and working their large garden. Following retirement, Harold and Arlene spent the winters traveling in their motorhome to Arizona and Nevada. They both enjoyed playing board games, relaxing and visiting with family and friends but didn't care to be away as both were more content to be at home. They continued to live in their own home until moving to Estelline Nursing and Care Center in 2015. Harold passed away on March 18, 2016, and in September of that year, Arlene moved to Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.

Arlene is survived by her four children: Larry Anderson of Watertown, Connie (Jim) Johnson of Big Lake, MN, Timothy (Linda) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, and one daughter-in-law, Lynette Anderson, of Watertown; four step-children: Debra (Dan) Krueger of Watertown, Vicki (Greg) Stark of Conde, SD, Kathy Grabowski of Elizabethtown, KY, and Patrick (Marsha) Murphy of Watertown; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred and Harold; one son, Ronnie; one daughter-in-law, Arnetta Anderson; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her parents; and one sister, Harriet Lauen.
