Eugene was born on May 15, 1927, east of Charlesburg, to Anton and Anna K. (Bell) Steiner.
He attended Charlesburg grade school and one year of high school at Chilton High School before taking over responsibilities on his familys farm.
He met Rosie (Rosemary Schneider) of St. Peter in 1947. They married at St. Peter Catholic Church on June 7, 1949.
Eugene and Rosie were blessed with a large family. Together they ran a farm, milking cows, and tending the crops. Eugene supplemented his income as a New Holstein school bus driver for many years. By the mid-80s, with the house emptying as the children began pursuing their individual careers, Eugene and Rosie went back to school themselves. They sold their farm and began to pursue new passions. They earned their electrical motor repair degrees from Lakeshore Technical College. Eugene opened Steiner Electric Motor Service in 1981. In 1985, together with Rosie, they also earned their high school GEDs. Steiner Electric Motor Service continued to grow into a thriving business. Eugene continued tinkering in his basement mending everything from vacuums to three-speed electric barn motors. His family can tell you a grand story of how he turned a toaster into 8-track cassette car stereo! He retired from Steiner Electric in 1997.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 68 years Rosie of New Holstein; his six children, Terry (Karen) Steiner of New Holstein, Sue (John) Hughes of Fond du Lac, Ann Olson (friend Gary) of Grantsburg, Vicki Steiner of Layfette, Colorado, Bill (Denise) Steiner of New Holstein, and Mary (Paul) Askew of Phoenix, Arizona; his grandchildren, Beckie (Jason) Swangren, Brian (Becky) Steiner, Rhonda (Danny) Muellenbach, Shawn (Jodi) Daniels, Keith Daniels, Jayme Olson, Lukas Olson, Kennedy Steiner, Sydney Steiner, Aiden Jayme Olson, Lukas Olson, Kennedy Steiner, Sydney Steiner, Aiden Askew, and Emily Askew; and his great-grandchildren, Liam, Logan, and Luke Swangren, Jade and Dane Steiner, Hannah Muellenbach, Bryce and Henry Daniels, Kallie Daniels.
