Mark Spitzer, age 72, of Hot Springs, died, Wednesday, November 8, 2017. He was born on June 12, 1945, in Krakow, Poland, the son of Josef Spitzer and Anna Luxenburg Spitzer.

On August 2, 1974, he married Shirley Mooney who preceded him in death on May 3, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Eddie Spitzer.

Mark was Jewish in his faith. He was a 1963 graduate of Hot Springs High School and attended Memphis State University and Henderson State university. He was a businessman and began an association with Gartenburg’s Department Store at a young age, an association that continued into adulthood. Mark also owned numerous commercial properties, many with his friend and business partner, Tom Smitherman. Additionally, over the years he owned and operated several businesses in downtown Hot Springs.

Mark was an active member of the Hot Springs Optimist Club, where he served on the Board and also served as a Board member of the Hot Springs Boys and Girls Club for a number of years.

For most of his life, Mark was an avid collector of many antique items, in particular, he collected and restored rare antique arcade games, which his granddaughters enjoyed playing. He also owned numerous unusual antique cars.

Although unknown by most people, Mark was generous, kindhearted and often provided funds to people who were needy and down on their luck. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his family, special friend, and many other wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, November 10, 2017, in the Beth Jacob Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
