He was a prolific character actor who will best be remembered for his role as 'Jonathan Quayle Higgins III' in the hit 1980s television series, "Magnum, P.I.", receiving four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, one of which he won in 1987. For the same role, he also received five Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor, one of which he won in 1982. Among his many other TV credits are 'The Betty White Show', 'Valerie's Family', 'Simon & Simon', 'Murder, She Wrote' and 'One Day at a Time'. He also had roles in such films as 'The Last Picture Show' (1971), 'Paper Moon' (1973), 'Chinatown' (1974), 'Sunburn' (1979), 'Up the Creek' (1984) and 'A Very Brady Sequel' (1996). Hillerman died of natural causes.
