His parents were Pedro Maria Benitez and Carlina Pomales originally from Naguabo but moved to Humacao and Vieques. There are 2 conflicting death records from Vieques July 1888. One lists him as Manuel Benitez with parents Pedro Maria Benitez and Carolina Gonzalez age 2 (this first one appears to be an error because his father would have been about 63 years old). The second lists him as Manuel Benitez son of Pedro Benitez and Maria Pomales age 35. No headstone exists in Vieques.
