Mae Marina Montague, 85, of Two Harbors, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 at the Sunrise Home.

She was born July 16, 1920 to Carl L. and Evelina (Sjolund) Carlson in Two Harbors where she was a lifelong resident.

Mae graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1938 and was married to Raymond Montague on Dec. 31, 1941, before he left for military service during World War II. During the war, Mae was employed by the DM&IR Railroad in the car shop, as a meatcutter at the Two Harbors Coop Grocery store, and as a lift bridge operator on Long Island, New York. Mae later worked in the kitchen at a nursing home, at Trico Gas Station, and Universal Fiberglass, all in Two Harbors, then at Ramsgate in Duluth. Mae was a member of Vasa Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time with her family. Her love of children and animals will live on in her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 1999; an infant daughter; son, Michael in 1973; great-grandson, Miles Saamanen; brothers, Bertil and Richard Carlson; and a sister, Ruth Shubert.

Mae is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Roger) Saamanen and Joan Gelineau, both of Two Harbors; brother, Robert Carlson of Duluth; sister, Patricia (Harlan) Olson of Two Harbors; grandchildren, Cassandra (Kevin) Beardsley, Michelle (Matt) Carlson, Nathaniel (Renee) Saamanen, Larissa (Derek) Hubbartt, Aaron (Missy) Gelineau, Adam (Jen) Gelineau, and Lee (Keely) Gelineau; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Beardsley, Autumn and Zane Carlson, Logan, Michael and D'Angelo Gelineau; and special friends, Bruce and Gayle Pierce, Ron and Ruth Studier, Margaret Sande and Dorothy Waxlax.

MEMORIAL VISITATION:5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake County Humane Society or Two Harbors Community Education-Preschool Education.
