Phillip T. “Tom” Houston, 69, of Winchester, Virginia passed on from this world into God’s hands on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Houston was born in 1947 in Morgantown, West Virginia, to the late Phillip J. Houston and Wavelyn B. Andrews and stepson to the late John W. Andrews. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School, Class of 1965 and then attended West Virginia University. Mr. Houston was a roadway and buildings engineer, working for the Department of Prisons and Virginia Department of Highways until his retirement in 2002. He was a former member of Morgantown Moose Lodge, Pennsylvania State Grange, and West Virginia State Grange; a member of Winchester Moose Lodge and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He and his wife, Ruth, were instrumental in establishing the Aaron Michael Houston Memorial Scholarship Fund with Handley High School, which later became the Aaron Michael Houston & Ruth Elaine Houston Medical Scholarship Fund. They graciously donated turkeys to C-Cap and the church for the holiday season. A beloved husband, father, and servant of God who is home in peace with his Lord.
His wife, Ruth Elaine Houston, whom he married on March 11, 1980 in Morgantown, West Virginia preceded him in death in 2015.
Surviving are daughters, Lisa Elaine Rose of Winchester, Virginia and Rachel Lynn Holmes (Eric) of New Market, Virginia; step-sisters, Elaine Dodd and Lydia Andrews, both of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Along with his parents, stepfather, and wife, Ruth, Mr. Houston was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Michael Houston.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2774 Northwestern Pike, Winchester, Virginia.
The family will also receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday prior to the funeral service. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 pm on Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Rebert, Sr. and Pastor John O’Malley officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia. A time of food and continued fellowship will follow the interment at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be J.T. Taylor, Jim ermerins, Greg Rinard, Joe Greathouse, Jeremy Guerrant, and John Flowers. Honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Guerrant.
