Walter Gerald “Jerry” Hansen, 83, a resident of the Littlefork Care Center, died on Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Lukes Medical Center, Duluth, MN.

Walter was the first born child of Walter and Ada Hansen born on May 20, 1934 in Ray, MN. He went to the Ray School until the eighth grade and then helped out on the family farm. At age eighteen he became a machine operator for Mando/Boise for thirty-nine years. He retired from Sheridan Motors as a detail technician in 1993.

Walter was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Johnson on November 13, 1965 in International Falls.

He was a member of Northwoods Bible Church in Ray, a charter member of the North American Hunting Club, and the North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and bowling with his family, and he loved joking around with everyone. He enjoyed getting the haying done for the season and helping out on the family farm in Ray. He could sharpen any sawblade, knife, or ax to get the job done. He liked feeding the chipmunks and birds with Pete Morgan of the Littlefork Care Center. A special thank you to all staff at the Littlefork Care Center and all staff at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jean Hansen; parents, Walter E. and Ada L. Hansen of Ray; son, Robert Marcus Hansen of Sturgeon Lake, MN; grandson, Kevin Marcus Johnson of Willow River; brothers, Art Hansen of Nebraska, Douglas Hansen of Nebraska, and James Hansen of Hutchinson, MN.

He is survived by his sons, Bill Hansen of International Falls, Bryon Hansen of Palm Dessert, CA; daughters, Renita (Walter) Sarvela of Willow River, Lori (Mike) Etienne of International Falls; six grandchildren, Kelly Sarvela of Willow River, Heather Krall of International Falls, Ted (Kjersti) Sarvela of Sturgeon Lake, Eric (Kristy) Sarvela of Duluth, Adam (Ashley) Sarvela of Hinckley, MN, Brandi Etienne of International Falls; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul (Rose) Hansen of Colorado, Edith Hockett of Georgia, John (Jean) Hansen of Oregon, Richard (Kathy) Hansen of Oregon, Lynda (Mike) Newman of Hibbing, MN, David Hansen of Ray; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Shirley Merkling of Littlefork, Ted Thydean of International Falls, and many more.

A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Northwoods Bible Church in Ray.

Interment will be in the spring at the Lyman Cemetery, Ray.
