GILBERTSVILLE — Evelyn (Johnson) Leonard of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, died at age 84 on November 6, 2017, at her home.
Born February 16, 1933 in Nashville, Tennessee, to Virginia "Birdie" Keeling Johnson and William Earnest Johnson.
Preceded in death by her husband, Bernard M. Leonard; parents; stepmother, Shirley Johnson; and brothers, Walter Johnson and Russell Johnson.
Survivors include her children, Andrea (Roy) Berger of Mountain Brook, Alabama, Leslie Leonard of Paducah, Lee (Angelina) Leonard of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, and Linda Price. Also sister-in-law, Sue Johnson of Benton, Kentucky; grandsons, Austin Wilson, Jason and Scott Berger; and several aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be at Bethel Baptist Church in Gilbertsville, Kentucky, on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m. Burial at the church cemetery will follow services. Brother Charlie Canup will officiate.
A celebration of Evelyn's life will be Sunday, November 12, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cahaba Heights, Alabama.
Evelyn retired after 25 years as Activities Director of Calvert City Convalescent Center (Kentucky). She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Gilbertsville, Kentucky, for over 30 years, involved in youth groups, outreach ministry, and church activities.
She then moved to Alabama in 2006 to be near her daughter and son-in-law, where she was a beloved part of the Philadelphia Baptist Church family. Her sweet personality and love of Christ was evident to anyone who met her. She was a devoted mother, wife and friend who gave her love selflessly and unconditionally.
