Peggy was a victim of a church shooting in Texas
Peggy was well known at church as well as the town

Peggy Lynn (Stevens) Warden, 56, of La Vernia, Texas, died on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, in the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. She was born peacefully at home in San Antonio on Christmas Eve, 1960.

A Christian woman who devoted herself to her faith, Peggy led her Sunday school class every week in the loving church where she worshipped. She dedicated herself to teaching children the Word of God, and spent many hours in preparation for her class and Vacation Bible School. Peggy felt her greatest gift to children was to teach them to know God and have the comfort of His promises in their time of need. Peggy recently lost her husband of 39 years to cancer, and lovingly cared for him in their home until he took his last breath, all the while praising God for the many years they were given together. She was adored by her three grandsons, who will miss her gentleness and seeing her kind smile every day.

Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Christopher Warden; grandparents Walter and Zelma Brause; father Arthur Dale Stevens; and grandfather Barney McCain.

She is survived by her only child, Jennifer Racey; grandsons Zachary, Kriegan, and Roman; mother Patsy McCain; aunt Peggy Friedrich; brother Jimmy Dale Stevens and wife Korri; sister Leisa Kugler and husband James; brother Brad Stevens; mother-in-law Dorthy Warden; and stepmother Patsy Jan Stevens. She will be forever missed by her nieces and nephews, Kaden Stevens and wife Danessa, Kody Stevens and wife Skyler, Rheagan Stevens and daughter Grace, Katherine Kugler, and Ryan Kugler.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Cowboy Fellowship Church in La Vernia.

A gathering will follow in the church.
