Frederick “Fred” John Petersen, 87, of Hokah, Minn., passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Bethany Riverside in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

He was born October 9, 1930, in Caledonia, Minnesota to John and Jenny Petersen.

Fred married Audrey Middendorf on September 25, 1954. He was a devoted husband and father. Fred had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards. He often played cards at the Redwood Café in Caledonia while waiting to give his wife a ride home after work. One of his favorite pastimes was listening to polka music and dancing with his beloved wife in their earlier years.

Fred was a dairy farmer his entire life and took pride in the success of his farming business.

Fred was a Veteran who served in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his six children, Elaine Mehdizadeh of Savage, Minn., Wayne (Kelly) Petersen of Spring Grove, Minn., David (Diane) Petersen of Hokah, Minn., Sharon (Fred) Schmelzer of Holmen, Wis., Shirley (Dan) Levendoski of La Crosse, Wis., and Nancy (David) Beier of Hokah, Minn.; thirteen grandchildren, Bruce Mehdizadeh, Ben (Caitlin) Petersen, Karleigh (Shaun) Blomquist, Cody Petersen, Lydia Petersen, Deana (Anthony) Jagielo, Darcy Petersen, Dedra Petersen, Ericka Schmelzer, Heidi Schmelzer, Derek (Whitney) Beier, Nathaniel Beier and Aiden Beier; and his two great grandchildren, Behruz and Leila Mehdizadeh.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey, sons Robert and Fred, Jr., and son-in-law Reza Mehdizadeh.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 at the Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Woodruff Chapel, 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Rev. Mark Solyst will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hokah, Minn.
