One of eleven children, she was born in Des Arc, Arkansas on February 13, 1928, to Raymon and Myrtle Johnson.

Jean spent many years traveling with her husband, R.D. Freeman, as he pursued his career in the U.S. Air Force. No matter where- England, Okinawa, California, North Carolina or Kansas- she always made these moves an adventure for their two daughters.

One of her fondest memories was living in the village of Southwold, England on the North Sea. Jean made lifelong friends while in Southwold and remained in contact with them throughout her life.

An avid quilter, Jean made quilts for both family and friends. As she got older and her vision worsened, those quilts got smaller, the stitches less even, but each was made with kindness and love.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Freeman, numerous brothers and sisters and other family members, as well as her beloved grandson, Christopher Ryan Cooper.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley Cooper of Friendswood, Texas, Beth Brust and husband Paul of Spring, Texas; Grandson Quinn Cooper and wife, Margie; Bob Wells and wife Judith. Jean is also survived by her great grandchildren Aeriaua, Evin and Ian, as well as her sister, Sue Margrave of Des Arc, Arkansas and brother, Larry Johnson of Little Rosk, Arkansas, plus many other family members and dear friends.

A service to celebrate her life will be held in her hometown of Des Arc, Arkansas
