Lilian was survived by her husband, Reverend W. Maynard, Jr. to whom she was married for 61 years, and three children, William M. Fountain, III (Cindy) of Lexington, KY; Elizabeth (Beth) Fountain of Montreat, NC; and Jan Fountain McRae of Chattanooga, TN. She is also survived by five grandsons, William M. Fountain, IV (Jayme) of Circleville, OH; Heath Phillips (Jaclyn) of Smyrna, GA; Drew Fountain (Kelly) of Lexington, KY; Rob McRae and Wyatt McRae of Chattanooga, TN; and one great-granddaughter, Molly Fountain, of Circleville, OH. She is also survived by her sister Dorthea Leavell Hudson of Jackson, Mississippi, 3 nephews, and 5 nieces.
Before her marriage, Lilian served in Richmond, VA as the Director of Christian Education in a Baptist Church. She served for a number of years as the Director of Volunteers in two hospitals in Louisiana. At the hospital in Metarie, LA, she started a program which rapidly grew to several hundred volunteers. Later she was the coordinator of Refugee Resettlement for the Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and Western North Carolina. She spent hundreds of hours as a volunteer for at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Lilian was an Elder at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, as well as in two churches in South Louisiana. She was awarded an honorary lifetime membership in Presbyterian Women.
A memorial for Lilian was on Saturday, September 1, at the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church.
