David Starkey Jr.

David "Buster" Starkey, Jr. was born on January 25, 1931 in New Bern, N.C. One of five children born to the late Betty J. (Simmons) Starkey and David Starkey Sr. His wife Mable Montgomery Starkey for 57 years and grand-daughters, Ebony Love Hill and Michaela Laree Allen proceeded him in death. He was a graduate of West Street High in New Bern, N. C.

David was baptized May 15, 1936 at the James City River in James City N. C. He was a member of the Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church where he sang with the male fellowship choir and a member of the usher board. David was an avid reader of the Holy Bible- for hours on a daily basis.

David served in the U.S. Army from May 1948 to June 1962. During this time he was in combat- Korea 96th F. A. BN ground force for which he received a plague. He was further educated at the Presideo of Monterey, Ca. where he learned how to speak German fluently. A prerequisite to perform his duties as a Surveyor on a tour of duty in Germany
After leaving the military he held numerous jobs- machinist, construction, warehouse and educator at both high school and college level.

He departed this life on October 21, 2017 leaving to cherish his memory six children, Annie M. Starkey- Burns, Annette L. Starkey Hill, Cynthia Starkey Allen (Robert), Shawn R. Starkey (Michelle), Howard L. Starkey all of Texas. Christine G. Singleton (Robert) of Queens, N.Y. Sisters: Ethel B. Sampson (Johny) of New Bern, N.C., Dorothy L. Green of Seattle , WA. Brother: Edward C. Starkey, Sr of Seattle, WA. "Sister-in-Love" Caroline A Brock of Holly Spring, N.C. Sister-in-Law: Betty Davis (Harrison) of Prattville, AL, Delores Albright (John) of Prattville, AL, Dorothy J. Montgomery of Prattville, AL. Brother-in-Law: Walter Johnson of Buffalo, N.Y. Also to cherish his everlasting memory are a host of grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for David will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church, 126 E. Park Dr., Arlington, Texas 76010. A graveside service will occur at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington , Texas. A reception will follow in the main hall of the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers are Raymond C Henes Jr., Dana A Henes, Shawn R Starkey, Alex R McCray, Anthony Brooks and Anton Brooks.
