Don passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in Tulsa. He was 91. Born October 17, 1926 in Kirksville, Missouri, Don was the son of Jacob Lester Fritz and Bonnie Lillie (Hiles) Fritz.

At an early age, Tulsa became home for young Don and it was in Tulsa where he was raised and educated graduating from Central High School.

Immediately after high school, Don began serving his country in the U.S. Army Infantry. He would serve during WWII for two years before his honorable discharge. Following his time in the service, Don began a 44-year career with Standard Oil, later AMOCO Pipeline, retiring in December of 1988 as a Crude Oil Pipeline Operator.

On December 31, 1948 Don married Louise Carrier at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Tulsa. This, the result of a courtship that began after the young couple met at an ice skating rink. Don asked Louise for her number and when there was no ink pen to be found, she used her lipstick as a writing instrument to write her number down for Donald. Don obviously followed up and the couple would share 65 years of marriage together before Louise’s passing in February of 2014. Throughout their life together, Don and Louise enjoyed traveling, making friends, fishing and spending time with family.

A talented man, Don was gifted at playing the fiddle and singing. He used these gifts to bring joy to others and even at the age of 91 was actively involved in this endeavor. In addition to music, Don was quite the pool shark. He practiced this art at the Senior Center in Broken Arrow on a regular basis where he and his buddies were quite competitive.

Don has been described as loving, busy, thrifty, a hero and honorable. He was a man who truly ‘walked the walked’ and one who went out of his way to be kind and friendly to others. This man of faith, family and friends will certainly be missed by those family members and friends who survive. They include his daughter; son-in-law; several nieces and nephews and his close friend and companion for the last couple of years.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, his wife, Louise; two sisters: Lois and Lorraine; a brother, Norman; his son, Michael Fritz and a daughter, Nancy Daugherty.

Services to honor and remember the life of Donald “Don” Fritz will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Florence Street Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Drumright with military honors.
